FURTHER EVIDENCE IN FAVOR OF THE SGT. GUILLERMO ARIAS EXPERIENCE

RIO IV-CHAJAN: (COR)- The second investigation phase of the so- called "Chajan Case" is complete. (See UFO Roundup Volume 7, Number 35) The C.O.R's commission in this event consisted of engineer Federico Smaldone, Mario Bracamonte, Dante Guerrero and Francisco Dominguez, who devoted part of the day to interviewing Sgt. Arias in order to discuss certain points and adjust measurments which had been described by Arias during the C.O.R's initial visit, and which "did not match up" to the researchers. With his habitual predispostion toward this Rio Cuarto research entity, Sgt. Arias took time from his rest to cordially greet the research team, answer questionnaires and added numerous "unpublished" details which according to the officer, "come to mind as the days go by." The reserachers managed to collect important evidence, and given the confidential nature of the file, these have not been made known. Everything leads the C.O.R's specialists to assume that they now have new perspectives, although numerous hypotheses have been created around them.

Despite C.O.R.'s secrecy, it was disclosed that a significant rural area will be surveyed near Chajan in coming days, where persons who will bear witness to officer Arias' initial statement have already been located.

I'M FED UP...I'M INVADED FROM ALL SIDES...

These were Arias's words regarding the unusual rpesence of strange persons in his home. C.O.R.'s director made a humanitarian appeal for reseachers and curiosity seekers to please cease their constant visits. "Arias is placed under constant pressure," said Smaldone.

CHAJAN: (S.I.O.)- Had I known that all of this was about to befall me, I would have said nothing about what I saw." These were the words of officer Guillermo Arias when asked: how was he doing in recent weeks after the July 21 incident?

Arias related that every day he must put aside his police work or family duties to meet with strangers who have come from different parts of the country to question him about July's events. "They're coming from Santa Fe, Buenos Aires, Mendoza, they write me letters, they send me forms...I'm fed up...fed up... honestly," added the law enforcement agent.

The policeman, who is the only member of the Chajan Barracks, must meet the daily duties of dispatching, preparing summaries, sending notices to the D.A.'s office and courts, cover an immense jurisdiction and as if that weren't enough, he must offer additional services to supplement his income. His social relationships have become thinner and he himself is confined to a narrowing circle which understandably does him no good.

It is clear that the interest which his story has produced in UFO and non-UFO circles shall continue to bring about "invasive" manfiestations into Sgt. Arias's privat life and in the words of Federico Smaldone of C.O.R.: "It would be good if our colleagues around the country, to whom we appeal from the ufological and humanitarian standpoint, would take a moment to reflect on how they are affecting Arias with their visits. We understand their interest in conducting "on site" investigations, but in this instance we require a modicum of humanity towards an individual with a very special lifestyle devoted to his peers. Let us respect his intimacy and that of his family. We ourselves have a careful relationship with him and would ask for the same treatment by colleagues from elsewhere. They must understand and accept that Mr. Arias is under the effect of a severe shock, and if we add to this his heavy workload, it illustrates the kind of pressure he is subjected to on a daily basis."

Engineer Smaldone notes that "this not only predisposes Arias against us, but also harms any progress in the investigation we are carrying out. If the C.O.R. is completely respectful of Mr. Arias's time and is careful about its visits, we don't see the insistence by so many colleagues in wanting to be there in person, when they could ask for our firsthand information by asking, or can freely access it from our site. This is an ethical attitude we hope will be respected."
