Encounters with Aliens on this Day

 September 11

1946 - On this afternoon a three foot long, black cigar-shaped object with fins was sighted moving among trees in Engle, New Mexico. No traces were found on the ground. (Source: Larry Hatch, U computer database, case # 624, citing Jan Aldrich).

1947 - In Portland, Oregon the police chief and several police officers watched an aluminum or bright metallic object at 5:15 p.m. The UFO was the size of a weather balloon, and travelled rapidly from the northwest to southeast over Portland at 10,000 feet. It then veered to the south, and was gone in one minute. It, or another object, was seen again in the south, as an ovoid object that shot off to the south at high speed for 30 seconds. (Sources: Bruce S. Maccabee, MUFON UFO Journal, December 1977, p. 10; APRO Bulletin, December 1977; Bruce S. Maccabee, The FBI UFO Connection, p. 12, citing FBI documents dated September 13, 1947).

1948 - At 11:30 p.m. a yellow glowing teardrop-shaped object flew toward the west over San Francisco, California at 800 miles per hour, against the wind. It was lost from view in the fog. (Sources: Bruce D. Berry, Fate, February 1958, p. 58; Loren E. Gross, UFOs: A History. 1948 (volume 2), p. 75).

1949 - In Madeira, Ohio at 7:15 p.m. a few thousand people watched a spherical object in the sky that was caught in the beam of a ground searchlight. It was estimated that the UFO was at 17,000 feet altitude. The object seemed to rise to a higher altitude to avoid the beam. The sighting lasted for over an hour. (Sources: Leonard H. Stringfield, Inside Saucer Post...3-0 Blue, pp. 72-73; CRIFO Newsletter, August 1954; Loren E. Gross, UFOs: A History. Volume 2: 1949, p. 40).

1956 - NATO radar tracked UFOs flying in a curving trajectory over the Baltic Sea from near Bornholm Island, Denmark. (Source: Richard Hall, The UFO Evidence (Volume I), p. 121).

1962 - A round UFO approached a formation of three military jets from behind over the Mediterranean Sea north of Alexandria, Egypt at around 4:00 p.m. It was observed from below by both the pilot and copilot of the fourth plane, an RAF Javelin; its speed was at least Mach 2, and it appeared to be the size of a match head held at arm's length. It executed a 150 degree turn. The sighting lasted two minutes. (Sources: David Apps, FSR, April 1980, p. 32; Dominique Weinstein, Aircraft UFO Encounters, p. 33; UNICAT, case # 215).

1964 - A woman, Ms. Campbell, driving outside of Ulysses, Kansas had her car buzzed by a fast moving domed disc-shaped object, only three feet in diameter. It made a whooshing sound as it flew past. (Source: Oklahoma City Times, September 16, 1964; The Oklahoman, September 18, 1964; The Wichita Eagle, September 17, 1964).

1965 - Antonio Pau Ferro saw two objects land in Guarulhos, Brazil at eight o'clock in the morning. Two dwarfish beings emerged, 70 cm tall, dressed like humans, with "ugly" skin. They appeared to examine some tomato plants, then reentered their craft, which was six meters in diameter, and flew off. They spoke in a language which was not understood. (Sources: Jacques Vallee, Passport to Magonia: A Century of Landings, case 701, citing Lumieres dans la Nuit, issue 84; BUFORA Journal, February 1967, p. 14).

1967 - At 9:30 p.m., during a raging thunderstorm, an entire family in Villa Constitucion, Argentina watched a large, glowing object land in a field 300 meters away, giving off brilliant beams of light for the next four hours. Finally, it took off and was gone in seconds. Some sootlike material with an unpleasant smell, and tracks on the flattened grass were noted. (Source: Jacques Vallee, Passport to Magonia: A Century of Landings, case # 880, citing FSR, November-December 1968).

1967 - Radar operators at Kincheloe Air Force Base, Michigan followed 17 radar targets on their scopes for 80 minutes beginning at 10:00 p.m. Anomalous propagation was ruled out by the witnesses. An outbound B-52 had hard targets on their airborne radar but no visual contact. The first blip was on a collision course with the bomber, but it slowed, turned to the east, and accelerated to 2000 mph. Some of the targets hovered for a long time. (Sources: Gordon D. Thayer, in Edward Condon (ed.), Scientific Study of Unidentified Flying Objects, p. 164; Richard F. Haines, Project Delta, p. 188; UNICAT, case 674, citing James E. McDonald, Radar Meteoroligical Proceedings, November 1970, p. 17).

1968 - Miguel Costa, age 50, was driving in San Marti De Tous, Barcelona, Spain at 11:45 p.m. when he observed a dome-shaped, reddish-orange yellow light illuminating pine trees on a hill, so he stopped his car and approached. About 50 meters above the road he saw a domed object about 5 by 3 meters; he then saw four “8 shaped” entities or “objects” only 31” tall, giving off metallic reflections. They moved toward the object, apparently entering it. The craft then rose, giving off multicolored light and making an intense, deafening noise. The duration of the close encounter was eight minutes. At the site the witness found three marks, 15-cm. deep, and arranged in a equidistant triangular pattern, 2 meters apart. (Sources: Vicente-Juan Ballester Olmos, FSR, May 1973, p. 19; David F. Webb & Ted Bloecher, HUMCAT: Catalogue of Humanoid Reports, case # 1968-66 (A0978); Antonio Ribera, FSR Special Bulletin # 4, p. 51; UNICAT case # 425).

1969 - In Moron de la Frontiera, Sevilla, Spain a 67-year-old witness had a close encounter with a glowing, disc-shaped object. He suffered physiological effects when he approached the object at around 6:00 p.m., which was on the ground in a grove of trees. The witness reported that he could not breathe, and experienced pain and odd smells. (Source: Vicente-Juan Ballester Olmos, Catalogue of 200 Type-I UFO Events in Spain and Portugal, case 116, citing ABC Andalusia, May 24, 1970).

1972 - At 4:30 a.m. a UFO hung inside a bright blue cloud in Traralgon, Victoria, Australia, less than 200 feet above three 23-year-old bicyclists. The thing rose in the eastern sky. As day dawned the blue light withdrew, and only a silver circle remained. In a paddock in Rosedale, Victoria, Australia at ten p.m. a two-year-old gelding horse began screeching and then two witnesses noticed a nearby cone-shaped object in a blue cloud of light. It stayed for 10 minutes, moving around slowly and hovering in different places in the sky until it finally shot away. (Sources: Melbourne Age, September 14, 1972; Australian Flying Saucer Review, December 1972, p. 11).

1972 - On this afternoon the Aubury Evening News city editor was in the police station in Butler, Indiana when a 41-year-old woman walked in and reported a very close encounter with a UFO. Her hands shook and her brow was damp with sweat. She reported she had been driving along State Road 1 near some woods at County Road 34 at 1:55 p.m. when she came up over the crest of a high hill and encountered a perfectly round object just three feet above her car. It was about a car length long, and had what looked like red fluorescent paint along the top, and four legs coming out of the bottom. An investigation showed skid-marks where she had braked the car. Another man report a funny noise, while a third witness reported a high-pitch whine. (Source: Skylook, November 1972, pp. 5-6).

1973 - On this evening multiple witnesses observed a hovering object in El Ferrol del Caudillo, La Coruna, Spain.  It was bright and circular, with two hoops, and appeared to have feet on the bottom part. It emitted a very powerful light. (Source: Richard H. Hall, The UFO Evidence, Volume II:  A Thirty-Year Report, p. 345).

1976 - A young farmhand fishing alone in the evening on the Cheyenne River near Millsite Park, North Dakota saw a “person” dressed in white, with a hood kind of puffed up by his ears. The figure stood erect, staring at the witness. It stood perfectly still, never once moving. The witness screamed and ran the 100 feet to his house. When he and his parents looked out, the figure had gone. (Source: Albert S. Rosales, 1976 Humanoid Sighting Reports database, case # 2919, citing Curtis Fuller, Fate magazine, February 1977).

1976 - An MIB report was made on this day at around 8 p.m. in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Following a phone call from a man who said he was vice president of the "New Jersey UFO Research Organization" to Dr. Herbert Hopkins, a physician doing hypnosis research on the UFO abductee David Stephens, Dr. Hopkins reported that a strange man came to his door immediately afterwards. He wore a new black suit, had no eyebrows, was bald with pale skin, and had a slit mouth. He ordered the doctor to destroy his tapes.

Dr. Hopkins had told the caller to come right over, and he went to the back door after hanging up the phone to turn on the porch light. The man, dressed in black, was already coming up the porch steps. No one could have gotten to the house that quickly from any telephone, but this did not occur to Dr. Hopkins at the time. The man wore a derby hat, a black tie, a white shirt, and a new black suit. He looked immaculate, as if he had just put it on. He came in and sat down; when he removed his hat Dr. Hopkins could see that he was completely bald and had no eyebrows or eyelashes. His nose and ears were small and low set. Although his head and face were of a pale white color, his lips were a vivid red. His mouth was a perfectly straight slit, which he hardly opened when speaking. He asked Dr. Hopkins about the Stephens case, speaking in an expressionless monotone, and not grouping his words into sentences or phrases. While Dr. Hopkins was telling him about the case, he put the back of a gray-gloved hand against his lips. The red color came off on the glove, and it became obvious he was wearing lipstick. This man did not at any time move his head with respect to his body. He then told Dr. Hopkins that he had two coins in his left pocket, which was true. He told him to take out one of the coins and hold it in the palm of his hand, and Dr. Hopkins took out a penny. This proceeded to turn silver in color, then light blue; then it became blurred, then round, and then faded away. Dr. Hopkins asked him to make the coin return, but he replied, “Neither you nor anyone else on this plane will ever see that coin again.” He then told the witness that Barney Hill died because he knew too much, and that he died “because he had no heart, just as you no longer have a coin.” He told him that he had tape recordings of the Stephens’s case and correspondence relating to the case, which Dr. Hopkins admitted was true. The man then ordered him to destroy the tapes and all other UFO information, or he would suffer the same fate as Barney Hill. He said he would know when this had been done. The doctor noticed that the man's speech was slowing down. Slowly, and somewhat unsteadily, he got to his feet and said, very slowly, “My energy is running low—must go now—good bye.” He the descended the porch steps one at a time, and very slowly and unsteadily walked to the corner of the building. As he was walking toward a hedge, a bright bluish light, from the direction of the driveway, was shining as he left. Dr Hopkins then walked out to look at the driveway, but the light had already gone, and the man had vanished. Later, he and his eldest son found “a series of marks that looked like a small caterpillar tractor tread”, 4” x 18”, in the middle of his driveway . Dr. Hopkins was so shaken by this visit that he burned his audio tapes and everything he had on UFOs.(Sources: Berthold E. Schwarz, FSR, January 1978, p. 9; David F. Webb & Ted Bloecher, HUMCAT: Catalogue of Humanoid Reports, case 1976-102 (A1682)).

1978 - A tourist photographed a bright circular disc-shaped object over St. Pauls Bay, Malta at 5:30 a.m. It hovered for awhile, then shot away fast. (Sources: Malta Times, October 20, 1978; Larry Hatch, U computer database, case 12816).

1980 - At 4:20 a.m. in Anderson, South Carolina Mr. McAlister and two friends saw a rounded, seamless disc-shaped UFO that made a whining noise. It hovered over trees in a yard 100 feet away from his bedroom window. It rotated and wobbled. Physiological effects included red burning eyes, swollen glands in the neck, and a headache. Four hours later in Easley, South Carolina Mr. L. Garrett, age 40, saw a huge gray domed blimp or ovoid UFO making a buzzing noise. It was purplish metallic gray in color. It had a pipe protruding from it, and long windows. At 9:00 p.m. four witnesses driving in Anderson, South Carolina saw a UFO shaped like a "pancake with a clear dome", tilted while flying down toward their car. It had an orange rim of light, and was surrounded by a haze, at 400 feet distance. (Sources: MUFON UFO Journal, April 1981, p. 5; Allan Hendry, International UFO Reporter, September 1980, p. 11-13; Doris Graziano, APRO Bulletin, April 1981, p. 6; UNICAT, cases 50 & 53).

1989 - Three witnesses in Kalamazoo, Michigan had a close encounter at 9:15 p.m. with a 200-300 foot long, fuselage-shaped object, with stubby wings near the front, three white lights in front, and many red lights. It had what looked like tubes and pipes underneath. Its surface was a dull gray, and it made a low hum. The witnesses' dogs were excited as the cigar-shaped object briefly hovered over their house. The encounter lasted 20 seconds. (Sources: Shirley Coyne, MUFON field investigation case files, case # 891101C; Dan Wright, MUFON UFO Journal, February 1990, p. 17).

1992 - At 6:20 p.m. in Gulf Breeze, Florida a car sized (10 foot wide) domed disc was seen rising from a backyard 200 feet away. It flipped over before it rose vertically into the sky. It left behind three 10-foot wide circular traces on the ground, and magnetic traces. (Source: Donald M. Ware, MUFON UFO Journal, July 1993, p. 19, citing field investigator Pugh, case # 930507E).

1993 - At 11:30 p.m. an oblong object flew across the sky in Les Moutiers-en-Retz, Loire-Atlantique, France making a hissing sound. Two or three rectangular objects were orbiting it as satellites. (Source: Larry Hatch, U computer database, case 16177, citing Lumieres dans la Nuit, issue 320).

1995 - At 5:45 p.m. a 20-year-old woman was taking her sheep to a pasture in a valley in Rocchetta Sant Antonio, Italy, when she noticed something shiny standing nearby. When she got closer it suddenly turned towards her, and she could now see that it was a small smiling humanoid wearing a brown coverall within a transparent "spacesuit." It stood about 50 cm tall and appeared to have no arms or a nose. On its shoulders it had a silver hemisphere with an antenna on top. She stared at the figure for about five minutes then began walking home. The small being seemed to be following her, so she panicked and called out to a neighbor, who attempted to approach the being. It then began to trot quickly away, then it took off into the air emitting a noise like a motorcycle engine. Two other witnesses saw the humanoid fly over a field. (Source: Albert S. Rosales, Humanoid Contact Database 1995, case # 2653, citing Italian UFO Reporter).

1997 - On this night Ines Valdivieza and her 6-year-old daughter observed a small creature, brown in color with large red eyes, run from a pig-pen area in Colonia Revolucion Mexicana, Mexico. It made high bounding strides and disappeared into the dark. Five hogs were later found dead, completely drained of blood with strange scars on their necks. (Source: Albert S. Rosales, Humanoid Contact Database 1997, citing Pascual Rolando Pacheco Herrera).

2004 - In Los Angeles, California many witnesses reported observing an orange glowing triangle-shaped object with various blinking lights, surrounded by US military jets. They reported, "We even saw what appeared to be U.S. military jets surrounding a bright orange glowing object that seemed to turn into a triangle with various blinking lights. As it was traveling east we could tell the smaller crafts were jets because of the enormous speed they used to catch up to the craft. Everything we could possibly catch and see is recorded from the top of a neighbor's roof. This all happened over downton Los Angeles skyline where the object didn't leave for 30 minutes to an hour before those smaller crafts got there. There were many people who witnessed the event." (Source: George A. Filer & David E. Twichell, Filer's Files: Worldwide Reports of UFO Sightings, p. 65, citing MUFON-Los Angeles, http://www.mufonla.com/sightings.htm).

2004 - At 11:10 p.m.  in Westlock, Alberta, Canada a single witness saw a two-tiered, black triangular object that flew overhead making a whooshing sound. (Source: Geoff Dittman, 2004 Canadian UFO Survey, case # 669).

2006 - At 9:00 p.m. a triangle-shaped object was observed as it hovered over some trees between Sanford and Midland, Michigan. It had bright lights at two corners and small ones at the other that did not flash. (Source: Peter Davenport, National UFO Reporting Center, September 2006 webpage, report uploaded October 2006, p. 30).
