The witness was leaving a friends house on Hobartís Eastern Shore when a bright object was noticed in the western sky. A brilliant red/orange V shape could be seen. It was seemingly moving slowly away and was soon obscured by a nearby hill.

TUFOIC received a number of calls about the same object as did some of the local media. All the sightings were about 17.00 hours with the object losing elevation in the western sky. The witnesses all described a bright white to orange shape like a comet disappearing behind the hills west of Hobart. A time span for the sighting was from a few minutes to nearly 10 minutes.

The Centre believes the report was due to an over flight of an aircraft from New Zealand to West Australia. The upper atmosphere would appear to have been quite dry hence a short vapour trail. The aircraft would have still been up in the sun whilst the sun had set in Hobart. The NZ to WA aircraft have been the stimulus for sightings on previous occasions.

The Phoenix Lights
  - Lynne D. Kitei

During the evening hours of March 13, 1997, thousands of Arizona residents witnessed a mile-long, v-shaped formation of lights flying in the skies overhead. The UFO sightings garnered headline news, catching the attention of both USA Today and the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather. One person, however, was not surprised by the appearance of the lights. Dr. Lynne Kitei was simply grateful that a phenomenon she'd been witnessing--and documenting--for months was being validated by the experience of thousands of people statewide. After the incident, Dr. Kitei preferred to stay in the background, anonymously feeding information and video clips to the many news organizations who wanted in on the story. Now, for the first time, Dr. Kitei comes forward to tell her own story. 'The Phoenix Lights' is an exhaustively researched look at the phenomenon, including dozens of astonishing photographs and Kitei's own take on the wider implications of this remarkable event.
