On the night of Tuesday 26th June, a fireball type object was seen by the crew of an Ambulance travelling South along Burwood highway. They thought it was a meteor in flight except for the fact that it continued to fly horizontally to the ground. It appeared to be heading towards Upper Ferntree Gully. It was seen to travel from Montrose towards Belgrave...but then it REVERSED...slowed down..and then went UP..until it was out of sight. I have never heard of meteors reversing direction...and then ascending!! The witness described that it lost the burning appearence...and resembled a streetlight when it went up.
This same object was seen by two staff of the nursing home where the ambulance was visiting.
I was able to tell the caller that we would have no idea what they saw, but that it was weird, and unconventional...and that people in that same area had reported seeing 'flyingsaucers' recently.
