Description: This happened a while ago; I'm just making the report now after reading of similar sightings on a website today. Anyway...I had just arrived at a friend's house for a band rehearsal and had just unloaded my guitar from the car. I looked up to where Mars should be - it was supposed to be at its closest to earth that evening, and immediately noticed a pair of orange-reddish glowing orbs moving to the left.
Thinking it was unusual, I notified my colleagues inside the house. We all stood by my car and watched as these glowing lights moved across the sky, ascended to clear the top of the dandenong ranges and then disappear over the other side of the mountains. We watched the first pair for about 4 minutes or so.
As we were about to go inside, four more lights appeared in the northwest, following the same path as the previous pair. More appeared, and at one stage there were six of them visible at the same time, strung out from NW to SE. One seemed to veer off from the flight-path and travelled overhead and then rejoined it's companions over the hills.
Approximately 15 minutes after the first sighting, all objects had disappeared from view, obscured by the hills.
The lights were reported the following week in the local paper, but no explanation was offered.
I'm very interested in finding out more, after reading of heaps of similar sightings around Oz. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
