UFOINFO Sighting Form Report
Location: Canberra, ACT
Date: 12/27/05, 4.35 pm (eastern standard daylight saving time)
Approach Direction: From due south
Departure Direction: Flew due north, then vanished
Witness Direction: ObjectS (5 or 6) were directly above me.
Description: I observed 5 or 6 objects, which I first assumed were jet aircrafts, (they appeared metallic but I couldn't see any wings) travelling south to north in an arrow-head formation (I discounted birds due to the symetry of the formation and the speed at which they travelled). If they were aircrafts, I would estimate that they were flying at 20,000 metres or higher however there were no vapour trails. I watched for less than one minutes and they vanished without trace.
Color/Shape: They appeared to be metallic or perhaps white (the afternoon sun was perhaps reflecting off what ever I saw). Hard to make out the exact shape but I initailly assumed they were planes, minus wings! so they were the traditional cigar shape that some UFO observers report.
Height & Speed: I estimated that they were 20.000 metres high (assuming they were aircraft sized vehicles - at about the hight of regular jets travelling Melbourne/Sydney over Canberra). Their speeds was similar to regular jets travelling at that altitude - but they vanished in the blink of an eye.
TV/Radio/Press: No other reports were made as far as I am aware. Unfortunately I was alone at the time. I called the local observatory but no other reports were made at that time, not surprising given the minute size of the objects in the sky and the short duration of their appearance. I saw a similar object in about December 1989, in Canberra. It was travelling in exactly the same direction & location as the objects I described above. It appeared metallic and seemed to be travelling at a colossal speed and came to a dead stop directly above me (at about 20,000 m I estimated). It then descended at a great speed, causing me to jump up from where I was seated. After falling what I guessed was several thousand metres, it came to a dead stop once again, then vanished without trace. Very strange...
