AUFORN Sighting Form Report
09.07.08 FARLEIGH MACKAY (QLD) 2345hrs (NL)
Source: AUFORN ONLINE UFO Report Form
Witness: Mr. Damian X
Number of witnesses present: 1
Sighting Duration: 1.5hrs
Occupation: Systems Supervisor Electrical Department
Qualifications: Airforce trained avionics technician
Observation: I woke up and went out the back yard to check my dog and noticed a bright star in the west, about 20-30 degrees above the horizon, it was a beautiful night so I stood and looked around a bit as usual, but I noticed movement in this star. Upon closer scrutiny it was obvious it was moving.
After 10 years working in the aviation industry, I instantly knew this was not any regular aircraft. I yelled out to my wife who came storming out, quite annoyed with me until she saw the object.
We then proceeded to watch closely until 1.00 a.m I am also an amateur astronomer, have been for years, so I pulled out my medium sized reflecting Casegrain telescope.
The object had the same apparent magnitude as Sirius B, at the start! Description: The object moved very erratically for an object that appeared to be 60-100 miles away, maybe even in low orbit.
It would move in quick little circles, up, down, back and forward and rapidly change from very brilliant to almost indiscernible.
This kept my wife and me mesmerised until I noticed not one, but three of these star like objects, about 20 degrees apart, at slightly different latitudes, all moving in these erratic little motions.
One dipped below the mountain line and came straight back up very quickly. No helicopter or fighter jet has lights that bright or can move and change direction that quick, let alone do these little acrobatics for 1.5 hrs in much the same part of sky.
Location: At home in our back yard, address as stated above
Other Witnesses: My wife, we live in a rural area, but I walked to the neighbours to get their opinion, I realised they were all asleep and left them alone.
Apparent Size: Star
Actual Size: At the distance and brightness it would have been massive, to be able to see it. Football field size I suppose.
Altitude: low orbit or close to it
Object Origin: 30 degrees to the right of where Venus is currently positioned in the morning.
Object Destination: They gradually diminished in magnitude, but stayed in much the same part of the sky, until only one of them was bright enough to watch. We ended up going to bed after watching them for so long.
Moon Visible: No the moon had dropped below the horizon hours before
Moon Size Comparison: star sized
Planets Visible: plenty, I made reference to other stars, and also lined them up with a telegraph pole, just to be sure that they were moving in relation to me.
Weather Visibility: Clear, Cold, Calm
Viewing Aids: yes, but could not keep it in telescope viewer
