Weather Conditions: Clear winter night sky

Description: I was onboard a yacht with friends when I saw a flash outside. As there were no other people or yachts about I thought it strange and proceeded up the companionway steps to investigate. I entered the cockpit looking skywards and saw two brilliant flashes of light way up in the atmosphere and they disipated in 2 ever-increasing but fading circles of light particles.

My friends treated it as a joke when I explained it to them but a few days later I was shown a story in the local paper about 3 UFO's that had been sighted all along the New South Wales north coast and they were last sighted leaving the earth over Moreton Bay - which is where I saw the circles of light.

I have never reported this before although I have related the story often. I am not sure of the date or exact year as it was so long ago but it remains vivid in my memory.
