I have just found an old diary from 1996 and saw a detailed entry from 21st Jan 96. I know its been many years but thought someone else may be interested in this sighting. I still remember this moment very clearly but never new the exact date until now.

In summary:

I was dropping a friend home in my car at 2am early on 21st January 1996 (in Perth, Western Australia) when we both saw a bright white oval shaped object in the sky above us. At first we thought it was just the moon but then realised the moon was already in the sky. It seemed a fair distance away but still was larger in size than the moon itself. It made no apparent sound and was motionless for about 10-15 seconds whilst we pondered on what it could possibly be. In the blink of an eye, it shot across the sky towards the ocean, so instantly fast that it left a white light trailing behind it. This thin white streak faded over the next few seconds. I recently saw this friend and she also can recall this night vividly.
