UFO SIGHTING REPORT
August 22nd 2003
Date: August 22, 2003
Time: 3:00 - 4:00 a.m.
It was Friday August 22, 2003 approximately 3:00 a.m. although my time could be a little off but it was definately after 2:00 a.m. My husband, two friends and myself were in the backyard of one of our friends just hanging out. I looked up in-between two trees and saw a bright light in the sky. I asked my husband if he saw the same thing and he said that he did (him and I were sitting on the steps of the deck in the yard). The light looked like a headlight and was definitely too big to be a bright star. At first I thought that maybe it was Mars as this occurred during the time that you were able to view Mars with the naked eye. But the location was not the same one as where you could see Mars. The location of this bright light was Southeast and not too high from the horizon. My husband and I stared at it for a good 15 minutes or so. Then, because we were questioning what we were seeing - I went to the yard where our other two friends were laying down on the grass and asked one of them to get up and look at what we were looking at. He saw the same thing and we looked at it for another ten minutes or so. My husband was still on the deck and could still see it too. Then, as my friend and I were watching the light it slowly began to fade and then went out completely - that only took a few seconds. We were shocked. My husband did not observe the fading and going out part. It was almost like a flashlight losing battery power and then going out completely.
I read some of the sightings for Saskatchewan and what I saw sounds familiar to the sighting in Vonda, SK that occurred on August 8, 2000.
Needless to say, I have never observed anything like this before. I was surprised at the brightness, size and the amount of time that we were able to observe this light. Plus the way that it disappeared is unexplainable. Now that I have had time to think about it and if it was indeed a UFO - it seems as though it was like a spotlight observing something and then when it was done it seemed as though the observation light was just turned off. I am trying not to jump to any conclusions and am byfar not an expert on these types of things or the way they work but that is just the feeling I get.
My husband is not at all a believer in these types of things so the fact that he saw it too it wonderful but if I told him it was a UFO he probably wouldn't believe me. My friend who saw it go out with me.
If you could give me any feedback on this sighting it would be much appreciated.
In answer to your questions:
No the object did not make any movements at all in the sky. It was just stationary until it faded out. It didn't travel at all the whole time we could see it.
As for the distance - I am not at all good at knowing distances. I will check with my husband to see if he might be able to shed some light on how far away it was. It definitely was not as high up as a star appears to be. It seemed quite close to the horizon but still a fare distance in the sky. I will see if I can find out anything else.
It was bright white in color and there was no noise coming from it from what I can remember. We did not notice anything else in the sky as for aircraft but again that is now a little foggy and I was just staring at the light and casually comparing it to other stars in the sky but when I was doing that I don't think I saw anything else.
When it started to fade out it turned a little bit of a different color - almost the same as how a flashlight looks when it is losing battery power. It was definitely not white when it began to fade - just a really light shade of orange I guess. My husband was convinced (even though he didn't see it fade) that it was a cloud that covered it but there was not cloud cover in the sky that I could notice. Also, it definitely faded out like it was losing power not at all how it would look if a cloud was covering it.
As for any other details that is about all that I can think of.
