Weather Conditions: cool and very clear

Description: I was looking south and noticed what looked to be a star suddenly become very bright. At first I thought it could be an aircraft, a large aircraft, with its landing lights on. But it was too high to be an aircraft. I did one of those blink your eyes shake your head things just to be sure I wasn't seeing things. Remaining calm I focused on another star to use as a marking point of sorts...the star was moving rather quickly. It was just to the east of Orion (which I was using as a focal point to get a handle on how quickly this thing was moving). I called to anybody in the house to get outside to see this thing. My daughter came out and thankfully she too saw it rising higher into the sky. Then it began to zig zag a bit and then it backed up and stopped. Perhaps we saw a satelite I just do not know. Strange.
