Weather Conditions: Clear starry night

Description: My children and I were coming back home in the evening and just across from our driveway we saw an object approaching from the east. At first I thought it was a plane but the lights on the bottom were not blinking and weren't in the usual positions for a plane; they almost seemed to be changing color over and over. As it approached our position we noticed that it was flying much slower than a plane and lower in the sky. It also didn't have any wings. It almost seemed to hover above us it was moving so slowly and I think it stopped. My children seem to remember the lights going around it but I can't remember that clearly. It was very eerie because I couldn't easily identify it as anything we knew and it seemed so close to us. Without turning around, it started flying back in the same direction that it came but at a little faster pace than it had approached. I wish I had taken a picture of it because it was so fascinating but I was afraid to miss anything it was going to do.
