Description: Driving west on the #1 Highway past Coquitlam around 11:45pm Sept. 22, 2009, I was a passenger in a sedan and a friend was driving. He noticed an airborne object and thought something of it before I did. First he thought it was a plane, but as we drove closer it didn't look like a plane at all. I didn't know what it was, but at first I didn't think it was odd and kept my eye on it as we passed it. I thought that it had to be moving, and as we got closer, I thought it was a helicopter, but just before passing under the Brunette overpass, we passed right under it, and I realized that it wasn't moving. It seemed small and relatively close to the ground; I had a fairly close view of it as we drove what seemed to be 'almost under it'. It wasn't quite above us- it was a little bit towards the Coquitlam/North side of the Road, maybe over Boone County or something.
My best description of the object is this: It didn't look round and it didn't look square, but it looked to be symmetrical on all sides. There were flashing lights of different qualities in different areas of it: A relatively large thick flashing light on one side, and maybe a smaller flashing light on the opposite side with a wider reach out from it. There also appeared to be light coming through a grill or 'mesh-like' pattern on one side of it. Passing under it, I was somewhat amazed to discover that it wasn't actually moving. As we kept driving down the highway, we decided to turn around in order to take a (cameraphone) picture of it. Unfortunately the nearest exit was a couple of minutes away, and it was probably three minutes before we managed to u-turn back and take the Brunette exit to get back to the same area... but to our amazement it was gone!! That stuck both of us as extremely odd, especially since it had appeared to be 'still' when we saw it the first time. We drove around the ICBC parking lot looking in all directions into the distance but never saw anything that looked like it could have been the object, in the distance, moving away. It's really unfortunate we didn't (a) get a picture of it or (b) see it start moving out of its standstill. Very strange. I would consider this a UFO sighting, and it would be my first (my friend's first as well).
