Weather Conditions: Cold, clear, evening, slight breeze.

Description: We were at a party outside in Lakeside Montana. There was an orange glow on the other side of Flathead Lake, about 5 miles away. It went straight up for thousands of feet, glowing orange, like a flare. It stopped, came forward, turned right, then went down and the light or glow went out. Then a helicopter with search lights arrived, sweeping the area several times. There was a retired Airforce pilot among us that had no idea what it was either. Very strange!!!
