Weather Conditions: Dusk in northern hemisphere. Fine clear night, no wind

Description: Whilst driving home I spotted a small green light over a ridgeline, estimated 7 miles distant. It was hovering silently and looked bright and out of place, it was strange enough to make me stop my car and get my spectacles. It continued to remain for about 3 minutes so I kept my eye on it, rang my brother and decided to drive toward it through the country roads. I reached high ground where I could clearly see it hovering above the distant hilltop, about 4 miles distant I think. It was emitting a white light with a green hue form its underside, appeared to be triangular in shape and may have had smaller lights on further up it, but it was hard to tell. The light then slowly, almost imperceptibly, began to lower silently toward the forested hilltop. As it did so and despite the dusk light, the trees actually lit up with the light form the object as it descended. The light then disappeared behind the hilltop. I tried to drive toward it again, but without the light to guide me became disorientated and turned back.
