Weather Conditions: Generally clear, some stars visible

Description: driving south east we saw a large white object in the sky. at first glance it appeared to be a star/satellite, it became clear that it was moving too quickly to be either as it was very low and bright in the sky compared to other satellites etc. The object kept a fast but steady pace for the 2 minutes we watched it, then suddenly shot across the sky at great speed to be replaced by a small light source reminiscent of a star within a second.
