Description: One night while living in a suburb called Gate Pa in Tauranga my father and I were standing out on the verandah which faced part of Tauranga harbour and behind was a view of the Papamoa hills, Looking up at the sky we both witnessed what looked like a shooting star moving from the direction of left (Mount Manganui) to right (heading over the Papamoa hills) as it didnt leave a trail nor burnt out we thought it may instead be a satellite, Until it made an extreme vertical movement at great speed then moved down again, then momentarily back in the direction it had come from at great speed then carried on its normal path, It is difficult to say how far it was away, but altitude was very high, no sound was heard. But I do know that no aircraft can perform in this way at such great a speed.

I have often thought about what exactly this was. My father and I both watched it for approximately 10 seconds.
I dont recall exactly what month or date this happened but was sometime in 2000. Would be interesting if anyone else has seen anything like this?
