Description: Girlfriend and I were sitting on Mount Maunganui beach looking at the stars when we noticed two very fast moving stars traveling across the sky from east to west. The objects were parallel to each other, with a uniform distance between them. Objects continued moving in this formation until they had crossed half the visible night sky. Then one object slowly crossed over the path of the other object, taking around 2 seconds to do so. A few seconds later, while both objects were still traversing the sky, the other object (which did not cross paths) engaged in a series of right angle turns and then continued on across the sky, now slightly behind the other. Both objects then disappeared over the horizon, behind the Kaimai ranges.
We both remarked on the objects, with a 'what were those' and thought that was the last we would see of them.
However, 10 seconds or so later, the two objects came back from across the horizon, moving west to east, again with vast speed. Again one of the objects conducted right angle turns, turning away from west - east to north - south and then back again. The objects continued to traverse the sky until they were both roughly middle of the horizon, when one simply accelerated away and disappeared. The closet analogy I have for this, is actually something from a sci fi movie, where a space ship 'warp' drives away. Its acceleration was very fast. The second object then gradually moved off into the stars, with a much more gradual rate of acceleration until it was invisible.
Both my girlfriend and I were astounded, and remarked that there was nothing we knew of that could fly like that.
