Location: Wickford Essex uk
Date: 4/11/04 2030 gmt
Approach Direction: west to east
Departure _Direction: upwards
Witness Direction: south and upwards
Description: 6 lights appeared coming up over the horizon from the west, in a chain formation, and headed east, not at a great speed, they appeared to stop over the top of us, and then one at a time went into a upwards direction, until they looked like stars, and formed a circle.
You would have thought they were helicopters hovering, they held position
Color/Shape: bright orange, ball shaped.
Height & Speed: very slow, comercial airline hight.
Follow-up Report from Brian Vike:
thanks for your response, I will try to answer your questions as best as
possible here goes anyway:
Weather conditions: mainly clear, some patchy clouds but stars visible.
Time: from the original movement to shooting upwards and hovering in a
circle, 30 minutes, but we stopped watching at this point. Although they
were still visible approx 22.20 when other family members came home, but
they just looked like stars then.
Height : aircraft height 30,000 ft approx
aircrafts present : Yes we are in an aircraft corridor that is quite busy at
times, south end small airport 7 miles east of us. Heathrow London 40 miles
west. Stanstead 30 miles north west. London city Airport 20 miles west.
Size: sorry just saw lights
Formation: sorry we didn't see them disappear but as noted earlier, they
were still visible after 22.20.
more info: when we first noticed, they appeared like helicopters coming over
the horizon (movie like) in a stacking formation, in a straight line. one at
a time after each other, then they came towards us, appeared to stand still
for a while (few minutes) then the front one moved forward and shot up,
followed by the second, forward enough to the same position as the first one
moved to, and so on. this is when the circle formation appeared.
hope this helps your studies.
