January 21st 2008 : Portsmouth, Hampshire, England

UFOINFO Sighting Form Report

Location: Portsmouth UK

Date: 21 January 2008

Time: 23:02 - 23:05

Number of witnesses: One

Number of objects: One

Shape of objects: Arrowhead

Weather Conditions: Broken Cloud. Night before full moon.

Description: Very fast moving objects sighted through 50% broken cloud. First seen (please consult current night star maps) roughly of vicinity Moon\Mars (direct south) at around 70 degrees to the vertical. Streaking south east at velocity marginally slower than would be associated with meteorite. Passed around 20 degrees due east of Sirius and lost behind buildings towards horizon. However, impression was gained that object was on a parabolic or ballistic course into English Channel to east of Selsey bill\towards coastal Normandy. Total time period of observation over full range of travel, no longer than five seconds.

Impression was of a group of objects at upper atmospheric altitude. However, general size of group gave impression of a total size which would span around two thirds of observed moon diameter. At least two bright components within group, maximum brighness magnitude 1. Impression of plasma trail (possibly due to moonlight) rather than a trail clearly visible. Not going down the route of melodrama here - my opinion is that this was man-made orbital debris returning to earth. No sound associated with flight as observed. Group of objects observed created a nebula like cloud flattened into a rough arrowhead formation, with (as previously indicated) several bright components and an associated (plasma?) cloud which appeared to be accentuated by the moonlight (21 January night before full moon). Nevertheless, I don't recall seeing, personally, a phenomena as significant or as unusual as this in the sky and would be surprised to be the only observer. Thus also surprised to find no TV\Radio\Internet reports of Satellite debris coming down.

TV/Radio Not known.
