Location: Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, NG19

Date: 08 February 2008

Time: Evening

Number of witnesses: 1

Shape of objects: bright light

Weather Conditions: Cloudless Clear Night Sky

Description: Bright light, erratic flight path, slight zig-zagging. Flew overhead - no detailed visual. Then the light went out - not an illusion of fading into the distance.

No sound at all, no flashing lights.

UFOINFO Note: As with other similar reports I asked the witness to have a look at the UFO Balloons website to see if this is what might have been seen and received the following reply:

IF UFO Balloons are intensely bright and do not flicker or waver, change hues, consistency or shape - then it was a balloon.

To reiterate: this light was extremely strong, it remained consistent; it did not change characteristics. It maintained the same strength of light until the moment it 'switched-off'. I did not go out; it did not splutter or fade. It wasn't a glow, it had no haze it was as bright as a spotlight.

I have lived by LHR and I'm currently on the EMA flight path, I like to look at the stars and I actively look for aircraft in the sky (sad but true) I know the signatures of plains and this had none.

To offer my very unscientific opinion it was most definitely not an aircraft or ufoballoon. I'm happy to be proved wrong.
