UFO's Over Blorenge Mountain and Blaenavon Area, South Wales, UK

Between 4.30 a.m. and 4.45 a.m. on the morning of December 14th 2008, I was travelling in my car towards Abergavenny on the A465 dual carriageway. About a quarter of a mile travelling east from the Gilwern roundabout, and whilst looking up into the southern aspect of the night sky momentarily, I spotted a very bright orange ball of light.

Being an experienced amateur astronomer, my curiosity to see exactly what is was, made my pull my car over to the grass verge of the dual carriageway, as I knew it was not a planet, or indeed any bright star like Sirius or Betelgeuse, (Betelgeuse being red in colour).

The sky had variable amounts of small patchy white cloud, segmented, a mackerel type sky, and there was a full moon. Conditions were dry and frosty.

Looking southwards, it became apparent that there were in fact 3 globes of orange light in the night sky, just above the mountain, with the three spread out from south to west, all measuring in brightness at about -4 magnitude.

The three orange globes moved around independently, and made no noise, and there was no identification lights, so I quickly ruled out any aircraft activity.

For around one minute, they moved around silently, with two of them coming fairly close together at one point to the western fringe of the sighting, but not touching. The other stayed away at a distance.

The globes then one by one disappeared up into the clouds above.

UFOINFO Note: As with other similar reports I asked the witness to have a look at the UFO Balloons website to see if this is what might have been seen and received the following reply:

Hi John,

I can categorically 100% rule this out.

I have watched the skies since 1979, and without a shadow of doubt in my mind, these were nothing of the sort. I would testify to this in a court of law.

I am a very experienced amateur astronomer, having written articles for magazines and lectured on the subject.

Again, I am 100% sure of what I have seen.
