Shape of objects: Orange ball shape

Weather Conditions: Cold and clear no wind

Description: Thought it was a meteor at first but there was no tail or trail of debris it then moved from north east to south west at a laboured speed and then disappeared in to the distance. I am at a lose to explain to my daughter what it was exactly that we had seen? We had just been looking at the plough to identify the north star so I am confident of the objects direction. It was orange and appeared to be on fire not very big but I couldn't say how close it was.
