UFO Sighting Report - United Kingdom
December 31st 2008 : Denmark Hill, London, England
UFOINFO Sighting Form Report
Location: Denmark Hill (SE5), London, UK
Number of witnesses: 3
Number of objects: 2
Shape of objects: Round
Weather Conditions: Fairly clear - some high cloud
Description: We saw two bright amber lights in the sky travelling from east to west (at a guess probably at between 2000 and 3000 ft). Area is on a busy flight path so first thought the objects might be aircraft lights. However, they were much larger than standard aircraft lights and after a few seconds began to move independently of each other. They moved very close to each other and then one shot ahead of the other - seemingly gaining altitude until eventually disappearing. The second remained at the same high and appeared to be maintaining a steady speed. After about 1 min or so the second gained altitude until also disappearing (perhaps into cloud). Seen as it was new years eve we thought that they may have been fireworks of some description - but they were too large and high for this to be a reasonable explanation.
UFOINFO Note: As with other similar reports I asked the witness to have a look at the UFO Balloons website to see if this is what might have been seen and received the following reply:
Many thanks for getting in touch so promptly.
Having looked at the link I think that these lanterns could very well explain what we saw - and may well explain the erratic movements of the lights.
Interestingly others have made similar reports in the local area (see link below) - but once more this might suggest the release of these lanterns being common in the area.
I will let you know if I see anything else and, if there is a next time, I will try and get some pics/film.
All the best for the new year.
