Description: I too saw the display in Worthing on New Year's Eve. I watched them through binoculars and am certain that someone was letting off 'fire balloons'. They rose in batches, then a few stray singles followed. They were very beautiful and eerie, floating over. The wind currents can make them drift, stop then suddenly shoot off. I think 90% of the 'orange orbs' mentioned round Xmas and New Year are these.
HOWEVER - some might not be! The frequency with which people are reporting probable fire balloons may be the result of an attempt to fuzz the ufo/et issue. But it might have the opposite effect, as more people think they've seen a ufo or ufos and are then more open to having an actual sighting. Keep watching the skies! The next lot might be genuine.
