UFOINFO Sighting Form Report
Date: July 26 09
Number of witnesses: 2
Number of objects: Six
Shape of objects: Round I think
Weather Conditions: Slight cloud cover with brakes
Description: As John has said, I thought they were aircraft in line astern, but there was no noise no navigation lights or strobes, I caught sight of a unlit shape in the cloud that was hammer shape they all vanished in the cloud, the police had no reports at the time I phoned, as the craft came from the south west I phoned the port of Plymouth control as they came from that direction but they had seen nothing.
TV/Radio: I have sent images that I took to Photoshot News agency in London they are not the best as it was dark and difficult to keep the camera still.
UFOINFO Note: As with other similar reports I asked the witness to have a look at the UFO Balloons website to see if this is what might have been seen and received the following reply:
Thank you for your reply, I am aware of the UFO balloons but the way these lights were moving I am sure that you can rule that out.
Just to go over what we saw, it was 10.40 thereabouts when I saw the first light, thinking it was a helicopter as we have a lot of that activity here in Plymouth, I did not think it was unusual, but another light appeared, then another flying along a definite course on exactly the same flight path and line astern, I waited for the sound of engines but nothing, the first one passed over the house in silence and I called my wife and got my camera, unfortunately because it was pitch dark with a low cloud base I had to use a very slow shutter speed and the images are not clear. The three lights moved across the sky quite quickly then a further three appeared moving in exactly the same way along the same path as the first three. Then, through the cloud, we saw a very strange image it was black and the shape of a crescent shaped axe, that is the only way I can describe it, then it disappeared into the thickening cloud whilst the lights continued across the sky until they too disappeared into the clouds. I would add that there was quite a strong wind and the way the lights were moving meant that they would have to have had some sort of propulsion unit.
I looked up recent UFO sightings on the net and in Birmingham it appears that the same thing is being described hence the quote, there is comment and video to be seen and they too mention six lights travelling line astern but no mention of the axe that time.
I called Air Traffic first thing this morning they had no idea of what it might be.
I used to be air crew in a past life and I am very familiar with lights in the sky, the absence of strobe and port and starboard lights of any sort would dismiss the idea that the lights may have been aircraft.
What really irritates me is not knowing what it was we saw and the fact that nobody else has reported any kind of sighting I find very frustrating as the lights were so bright I would have thought the whole of Plymouth would have seen them - most odd.
I have drawn as accurately as possible what we saw and attached a couple of photos that might help. The photos are not good as I did not have time to get a tripod so there is camera shake but I have re-created what we saw in img223 as accurately as I can. 0060 & 0058 have not been touched, just enlarged.
