UFO Sighting Report - United Kingdom
September 26th 2009 : Billingham, Teesside, England
UFOINFO Sighting Form Report
Location: Billingham, Teesside, United Kingdom.
Date: September 26 2009
Number of witnesses: 7
Number of objects: 1
Shape of objects: Spherical when far away, but when closest seemed flame like - could have just been glare from the light it was emitting.
Weather Conditions: Cold, mostly clear sky, no/not very much wind.
Description: It was bright orange, quite high up in the sky - at least 3 times bigger than a star when it was directly overhead (closest). Flame-like. Moving quite slowly, seemingly of its own accord. Once we stopped on our street (we'd been in the car), it appeared to be further away (or higher up?). Appeared to have stopped travelling in its previous direction (due east), and was gently swaying from left to right as if it were hanging there. Stopped swaying before it moved off in a south-east direction - a spontaneous start from being still, before smoothly moving off. Moved faster than before, until it became a small dot, and then it vanished.
3 witnesses saw from the start of this report, 2 from when it was hanging and swaying, and the other 2 from when it began to move away south-east. 5 witnessed from Wolviston village, two from Billingham.
UFOINFO Note: As with other similar reports I asked the witness to have a look at the UFO Balloons website to see if this is what might have been seen and received the following reply:
My parents told some friends about this sighting, and a lot of other people saw it too, but most of them reckon it probably was on of those lanterns. Oh well. One question though, not regarding this sighting but another I had absolutely years ago - do UFO balloons give off smoke?
