Weather Conditions: Clear hot just getting dark

Description: Travelling south to north, west of witham. Appeared to be an aircraft with an engine fire, orange red fireball in the centre with wavering edges. Having gone past bits seen falling away like sparks from a bonfire. Visible for 45 seconds travelling at about aircraft speed and estimated 3000 feet. This is a route used regularly by aircraft. No press tv reports of an aircraft in trouble have been seen.
