Description: This report is from memory but the sighting has stayed with me and those that saw it for over 30 years.

It was an evening during the week and I let the dog out of the back door to go to the loo as I or my parents did every night. Our house backed on to a school playing field and beyond that were farm fields pretty much all the way to Brentwood. No A13 or houses in sight at that time.

I noticed three bright lights close together and in a horizontal straight line hovering in the sky. They appeared to be hovering over William Edwards school buildings which were about 1/4 mile away to the north west, only about 100 feet above the ground. After about 3 or 4 minutes watching this phenomena to see if they moved or disappeared I rushed indoors to tell my parents who also came out to witness the unusual lights.

They were as intrigued as I was and told me to jump over the fence to alert the neighbours which I did. I can't remember if both neighbours came out but at least 5 people witnessed the event. After about 10 minutes everyone went in doors apart from me. I continued to watch the lights for a total of about 20 minutes when all of a sudden the lights/object shot south eastwards across the sky at terrific speed and with no sound whatsoever.

I lost sight of it as it passed over the roof of the house but I would compare the speed with that of a shooting star/meteorite, from its static position.

I have never forgotten the sighting and it changed my perception of the existence of UFO's forever. I believe I reported the sighting at the time to Essex Police and/or the Thurrock Gazette.
