Weather Conditions: Clear after earlier rain

Description: This has puzzled me for years . . . I was 24 years old, single parent living with my baby son. On the night in question, I was at home watching tv. After the program ended (a sitcom), I went out into my back yard to put some stuff in the dustbin. It was a clear night and visibility was good, the sky was exceptionally clear as it had rained earlier. I'm interested in astronomy so I lingered in the yard for a while, star spotting. Then something white flashed past me in the next street, between two semi-detached houses opposite, at upper floor level, it seemed. I was puzzled, and a second later, at the end of the block, four points of white light, just like stars, appeared beyond the roofs. They were in a kite or diamond shape, and swooped upwards, becoming more of a rectangle shape, before disappearing behind the roofs again. I waited but they never reappeared. I have mentioned this to a few people over the years, and it has been suggested that I saw ball lightning. . . But the sky was completely clear.
