Original Sighting Form Report

Date: april/??/2002 around 9:00 pm cst
Approach Direction: stationary
Departure Direction: unknown
Witness Direction: east
Description: Low cloud ceiling, light rain/fog. Father and I were in the kitchen cooking dinner I looked out the sliding door that faces east and noticed lights up in the clounds. there were 5 round white lights in the clouds rotating around in a circle. I watched the lights for a minute thinking there the people in the house behind ours were having a party because the lights looked like lights from a "party light" machine would produce but i couldnt see any light sources at the neighbors house that could cause such large light on the clouds. I stepped back and mentioned to my father of the happenings in the clouds and asked him to come over and look. he watched the lights for a few with me and was just as confused as I was as to their origin and he continued making dinner. I watched the lights for another 5 minutes then went and helped him out real quick with dinner and when i returned the lights were gone.
Color/Shape: 5 round white lights which seemed around 10 feet around rotating in a large circle of about 30 feet
Height & Speed: rotational area was stationary, other than the rotating in the circle the lights were not moving any direction and the departure was not witnessed
TV/Radio/Press: I did not see any reports on radio, tv or in the press

Q - How long did you observe the lights in the sky for ? Total amount of
time.
A - I observed them for around 5-8 minutes
Q - Did the lights in the clouds move to different locations while you
watched, or did they say in pretty much the same location ?
A - No the lights stayed in the same rotational area.
Q - Do you live in a major city or a well populated area ? The reason why I
ask is I wonder if the lights were caused by some kind of event which was
going on in the area. Are you aware of a festival taking place or something
like it around the time of the sighting ?
A - The town I live in is a I guess you can say suburb or one of the larger
cities for Iowa all together I would say they have at least 100,000 people.
No there were no festivals occurring at that time in the year.
Q - Did you or your Dad see any aircraft flying in the area at the time of
the sighting ?
A - No we didn't, like I said the cloud level was fairly low at the time.
Q - Did the lights travel in a clock wise direction, or counter clock wise ?
A - The lights rotated in a counter clock wise direction.
Q - Also did the lights stay at equal distances apart from one another
throughout the sighting. or did they move in closer to one another them move
back out again ?
A - Yes the lights stayed equal distance from each other.
Q - Did you happen to hear any sound?
A - I couldn't hear any sounds at the time except for a little bit of wind
and some voices from the back yard neighbors house.
Q - Did you have any pets close by, if so did they react to the lights and
you found unusual for them to do so ?
A - Yes one cat was sitting by me at the back door but I don't think she
noticed them at all. She also has a fairly unsteady personality so I could
not tell if she was behaving oddly because of the lights or if she was just
being her self.
Q - Using your thumbnail to estimate the size of the lights, how large would
you say they were ? (a guess)
A - If holding your hand out at arms length I would say they were just
slightly larger than a thumbnail.
Q - If you can add anymore detail for what you saw it would be very much
appreciated.
A - The lights appeared to be near to or right above our back door neighbors
who's house is about 40 yards away from the back door. and the clouds were
around 350 ft I would guesstimate. I didn't see any light origins on the
ground nor any other lights in the sky besides those 5. they would make a
full rotation I would say in about 2-3 seconds.
