Autumn 2002

Middletown, Northern California

Received Report: February 14, 2004

Date: Autumn of 2002

Time: Between 9:00 and 9:15 p.m. PST.

Hello Brian,

I want to report what I saw a few years ago.

I saw a low flying Florescent tube, about ½ to 1 mile away from me in northern California, in a little town called Middletown which is approximately 100 miles north of San Francisco. I have a degree in EE and am definitely not a nut or prone to hallucinations! It was very brightly glowing mostly white/with a slight tinge of lime. It appeared to be approx 60 to 80 ft long and about 20 ft. wide. I have never seen a UFO before, but this was definitely a strange sight. No noise at all, but there was a very thin almost an invisible vapor trail behind it and it was moving about 60 mph. I observed it for about 30 seconds when I looked down for 5 seconds to move my car completely off the road, all that remained was the thin vapor like trail which actually stopped at the last place I saw this light. I would surmise that it just disappeared or stopped leaving a trail..

It didn’t do anything remarkable…like right angle turns or whatever, it just floated over the nearby mountain and then it glided silently past my parked car. I remember feeling very excited, giddy and a bit ungrounded afterwards since this has never happened to me before. I guess they are really here!

Additional Information:

Hi Brian,

Thanks for responding so quickly.

I will do my best to answer you excellent questions

The sighting took place between 9:00 and 9:15 pm pacific standard time. I am sure that this is the correct time since I was just returning from shopping at a local supermarket for food, and they close at 9:00. I arrived there at 8:50, did about 10 minutes of shopping and started driving home. I drove only 1 mile when I saw this glowing tube shaped object heading northerly over the mountain from the south-south-west. When I first observed it was about 2 miles ahead of me and to the right at about 3000 ft elevation. It was slightly above the mountain which is about 3000 feet.

When it cleared the mountain it descended to approx. 1000 ft. and crossed over the meadow about 1/2 mile to my right.

I am not sure of the exact date of the sighting since this happened 2 years ago and the information I originally recorded on my hard drive was lost when the drive crashed last year. However my best guess is that it occurred in the autumn of 2002. I mentioned it to my closest neighbor and he confirmed that he has also seen a similar object in the past. He has also seen the large triangular ships and had a missing time event when he and his girlfriend were on a date! Although the weather was cool with clear visibility it was fairly dark with only partial moon light. I live in a rural area with no street lights. At first I didn’t notice any vapor trail behind the object at all. After it disappeared, I noticed a very fine trail extending a couple of hundred feet at most behind the object. There wasn’t enough light to see if this trail did extend further on. However there was some moon light and when the object disappeared all that remained was a thin trail of roughly a hundred feet that faded away rapidly into the darkness.

I originally thought that this might be someone’s idea of a silly prank, putting a quiet electric motor on a large RC glider painted all black with a gigantic tube of light on it and then flying it around to get folks all excited, but there was no wings and the trail was only visible after the object disappeared. I still haven’t a clue what this was, but it did appear to be a plasma type of light like a very huge brightly glowing florescent tube.

Because of the sky was fairly dark and the vapor trail was so fine and thin, I could only see it extending 1 to 2 hundred feet at most behind – and that was after the object or it’s light left the scene. I am not sure how to describe this accurately but if you took a ball point pen and held it at arms length – that is approximately how large it appeared in the sky…I’ve been on many planes and this object appeared to be about 1 to 2X the length of a Lear jet. The distance from the meadow to the mountain was only a couple of miles so if the vapor trail did extend to the max it would be 2 miles long….but I was unable to see it past 100 feet or so. Thanks again Brian for posting the facts and keeping us informed - you doing a great job!

Take good care!

Thank you to the witness for the report.
