Original Sighting Form Report:

Name: On File

Location: Fort Myers, FL Lee County

Date: 04/17/04 About 7:30 est

Approach Direction: Western sky

Departure Direction: never moved

Witness Direction: west

Description: This weekend we were in the Ft.Myers area for the challenger baseball festival. On the way back from the barbecue at dusk (the sun had just set) we saw this sliver of light in the western sky. If it was curved I might have thought it was a new moon or something, but it wasn't. It looked like what the sliver of moon might look like if it was straightened out. It was at an angle. It did not move. There were no clouds in the sky. We sat looking at it for about 10 minutes. During that time a bright light appeared at the very top end and then would disappear. This happened several times. Then it started to fade and then disappeared before our eyes. It was very strange. I could not figure out any explanation for it. It was almost like a slit in the sky opened up and then it closed.

Color/Shape: White ... a slit and an angle Had a bright light come out of top end several times.

Height & Speed: Didn't move.. don't know what height

TV/Radio/Press: Not that I know of. We have a picture of it.

Follow-up Report by Brian Vike:

Kathy I guess the first question I would like to ask is, could I get a emailed copy of the photo that you took of this event ?

The computer crashed of the person who took the photos, but she said all her pictures on the hardrive wer saved.. as soon as she gets it back she is going to send them to me.. they were on a digital camera.

Did the whole event last for 10 minutes or longer, if longer would you be able to pass along the total amount of time you were able to observe this for ?

Yes, we watched it for at least 10 minutes or longer, but I don't know how long it was there before we noticed it.. It was very unobstrusive and I doubt many people payed attention to it. It looked like an odd angles sliver of cloud.

I just wanted to get this straight in my old brain. -:))) Was it running in a straight line, or was it curved to some degree ?

it was straight but at an angle ..top to the south.. bottom to the north..slightly fatter in the center.. -

How much of the sky would you say this took up. Just a rough guess would be great ? Width and length using a pencil as an example.

If it was curved it would have looked like a new moon..about that size.. Hard to describe. It wasn't that far above the horizon.

The light that appeared from it, what color was this, and did it move around the sky like a beam of light, or did it do something else ?

the beam of light came out of the very top point ..like a star..about 3 times. It was bright white I guess. Then the whole object slowly faded.. closing in on itself.

Was it completely dark out when you saw this ? also what were the weather conditions that evening at the time of the sighting ? If there were clouds about, were they still visible or even lit up from the sunset's light ?

The sky was cloudless, the sun had just set.

Any other detail you could add Kathy would be very much appreciated as we sure would love to look into this reported sighting.

Can't think of anything else except it never moved .. Once it started to fade and then it came back and the light popped out again.... the second time it faded it didn't come back.
