Location: Riverbank, CA USA

Date: 07/31/05

Approach Direction: overhead

Departure Direction: straight up

Witness Direction: the sky

Description: 2 friends and I were fishing the Stanislaus river when at approximately 3 am a very bright star appeared. We were star gazing as we saw a few falling stars that evening. It stayed in one place then moved a little to one side than the other. Suddenly it vanished by flying straight up and the light got dimmer and dimmer. A few seconds later it reappearred close by and did the same thing........

Color/Shape: bright white light, looked like a star
