Date: Wednesday, August 31, 2005 10:30 p.m. CST Approach Direction: South Departure Direction: Northwest Witness Direction: West Description: Due to Katrina, there were no lights so night was very clear. I thought it was a satellite at first, a round white globe about the size of Venus on a good night. The object was moving just above the tree line. It was coming from the south (towards New Orleans) moving smoothly toward the northwest, then it stopped, rose at a 45 degree angle, and continue on northward. It then backtracked sharply and stopped again. Then it rose straight up again and increased it's speed to the point it went from sight within a couple of seconds. Color/Shape: white round globe, a little larger than a satellite. Height & Speed: Just above the trees. Faster than a satellite and could reverse it's path. Disappeared in a couple of seconds after appearing to survey the area around Lake Ponchatrain.
