December 7th 2005

UFOINFO E-mail Report

Tonight around 7:30 p.m. while traveling east on I-10 in Metairie heading towards downtown New Orleans, there were two sets of blue lights -- each set containing approximately 15 - 20 small blue lights, which would separate into a circle, dance around, and then come together. The first set was located between Causeway Boulevard and Bonnabel, and the second set began around the (now famous) 17th Street Canal. I passed beneath the first set of lights. The second set traveled parallel to the interstate to around S. Jefferson Davis Parkway in New Orleans. The diameter of the "circle" was at least 100 ft. wide (my spatial perception is very poor -- the circle was large). My first thought was that they were search lights from helicopters, but the size of each light was much smaller than a search light. My second thought was that they were party lights, but again each light was too small, and I could not trace the source of the light, such as a laser. My final thought that was that it was above the clouds.

Has anyone else reported the lights in the sky on 12/7/05 around 7:30 p.m. in Metairie and New Orleans?

Hi Brian,

Thanks for your reply.

1. Because of traveling home on the interstate (coming from Tai Chi class and being kind of hungry and wanting to get home) I was able only able to observe these objects for approximately 5 minutes (approximate time to travel between Causeway Boulevard and Xavier University - S. Jefferson David Parkway area on I-10 East).

2. There were no aircraft I could see (it was cloudy). There were several police cars on the side of the road (I considered it may have been their lights reflecting off the clouds -- however, the individual lights were small and that would not explain the individual small lights moving into a very large circle and then coming together).

3. I did not observe movement in the first set of lights; however, the second set of lights traveled from west to east (from the 17th Street Canal area towards Downtown New Orleans - paralleling the interstate) on the east side of the interstate.

4. And yes, it was cloudy.

5. The area where the lights were seen was not near the airport, which is several miles west of the lights, nor near a military base (several miles east of the lights -- across the river from Downtown New Orleans).

I've not seen anything on the news. Is it possible these were what my daughter called "party lights?" These were not large circular beams but rather cylindrical lights. Could they have been created by a laser?
