UFOINFO Sighting Form Report

Location: Roanoke County, Roanoke, Virginia

Date: 01/24/06 19:00 EST

Approach Direction: Object moved away from me in the southern sky

Departure Direction: South. The object appeared to climb into deep space

Witness Direction: South West

Description: As I walked out of my house I looked up and noticed a brilliant star like object. The object was 2-3 times the size of Jupiter and was postioned at about 11:00 in the Southern sky. It was the brighest object in the sky. The sky was clear.

The object pulsed and appeared to move away. As it moved it appeared to move deeper into space and dimenished in size until it disappeared.

I have seen a similar object which I thought might have been the skylab until it turned at a ninety degree angle and disappered. This sighting occured sometime in the Fall.

Color/Shape: Same colaration of a planet but larger and more brilliant

Height & Speed: Appeared to be at an alttitude comparable to a satillite. Object moved rapidly relative this alttitude.

Follow-up information from Brian Vike:

Hello Brian,

Thank you for contacting me. After the first sighting I was curious but upon the second sighting I have become even more so.

Brian , I do live in the flight path of the Roanoke Airport, typically the planes that fly over do so as they depart. As they fly over planes are at about 1,000-2,000 feet and are clearly visible and audible.

The most recent sighting was brief. Approximately 20 seconds in duration. The first was perhaps 30-40 seconds.

In both instances the object I saw resembled a satellite but was much more brilliant and larger. The object was round and colored similar to a planet.

It was about 2-3 times the size of Jupiter. It appeared to be at an altitude comparable to a satellite. The most recent sighting I saw the object in the southwestern quadrant of the sky. It pulsed and caught my attention. Immediately after it did it started to move. It moved into space(not across space) and dimenished in size as it traveled. It shrank to the size of a pin and disappeared. It moved very rapidly (as fast as a shooting star). It was not trailed in any way. Other than the pulse is did not change its appearance.

My first sighting was last fall about 10:30 p.m. I first noticed the object as it ascended from the south eastern portion of the sky. I was intrigued with it because it was larger than a satellite. It was comparable in size to the space station and was at approximately the same altitude. I watched it cross the sky. At the 12:00 position (it had crossed half of the sky) it made a right angle turn and sped away and shrank in size until it disappeared (This occured in seconds). The original heading of the object was south to north and as it turned it was flying in an easterly direction. In both instances there was no sound.

[UFOINFO thanks Brian Vike & HBCC UFO Research for the follow-up.]
