Location: Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, USA

Date: Tuesday, March 21st, 2006 est

Approach Direction: South

Departure Direction: North

Witness Direction: South then turning north

Description: I had gone out in the yard to check on my dogs and was looking upward to check weather conditions and noticed a triangle of white lights moving from the south. At first I thought that it was geese, since I live very close to the coast. But, as the lights passed diectly overhead they seemed to be transparent oval and red. There was no airplane noise, the object moved very fast and in a straight line. By object I mean the lights. I did not see an object other than the lights. I'm pretty sure it was probably some kind of Air Force plane, there is a base nearby.

Color/Shape: Perfect triangle. Lights are the only thing I saw. They were white in the distance and transparent red when it passed overhead.

Height & Speed: I don't know. It was dark. A faster then passenger plane.

TV/Radio/Press: Did not report. It was probably some secret Air Force Plane.

Thanks for your email.

The night that I noticed the lights the sky was completely clear and there was no moon present, which is why I had ruled out my first guess on geese traveling overhead.

I live about 20 - 25 miles from Charleston Air Force Base. The lights were moving from south to north, not in the direction of the base. Also not in the normal flight patterns of incoming or outgoing Air Force planes. I do live within a mile of both the Intercoastal waterway and the Beaches and the object was moving parallel to the water, but not over it.

The event lasted no more than 5 seconds and the lights did not blink or flash. After looking at planes flying during the day, I would say that this was much lower than passenger plane would fly.

I can't draw a diagram, I don't have a graphics program or a scanner. I would say it was a triangle with oval transparent red lights.

If I had to guess, it could have been one of the planes that fly low over war zones without detection or noise and using infrared detection devices. I have lived here for 10 years and am a constant sky watcher and have never seen this before.
