Shape of objects: Bright Orange Ball of Light

Weather Conditions: Perfectly calm, still and quiet. Partly cloudy sky.

Description: The bright light came from the south moving north up Seneca Lake at a rapid speed, completely silent. It then stopped and hovered over the lake then shot straight up in the air and vanished. We could hear several other people down the lake from us saying "oh my god, did you see that?!?!" at the same time the 3 of us were saying that to each other. Approximately 5 to 10 minutes later it reappeared out of the northwest, again heading toward us and traveling south down Seneca Lake. Us and the other folks we could hear down the lake said all at once "Look! It's Back!" It stopped, then abruptly heading straight north up the lake at an extreme rate of speed where it appeared to vanish again.
