Summer in the 1960's
I grew up in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. I lived on Ford St, between Voorhies & Shore Parkway. My best friend and I remember this like it was yesterday:
It was a beautiful summer day late in the afternoon. Neighbors were sitting on their porches chatting and the traffic on the Belt Parkway was congested, but moving. We were sitting on the stoop at my house when we heard a slight humm. We looked up and there was a huge circular UFO with blinking lights hovering right above us, but very low. I got scared and yelled for my mother. She came out and just stood there staring at it. My friend Jane was about to get up to run to my mother, but my mother yelled at her "Do Not Move". That was the first time I had ever heard my mother yell (she never raised her voice. She was always very soft spoken). We also noticed that at that precise time the neighbors had all gone inside and there was no cars at all on the Belt Parkway. It was as if time stood still. It seems like a long time, but it only lasted for one full minute. We watched it hoover above us and then it lifted itself a little higher and just disappeared. After it was out of site, neighbors started coming back out to sit on their porches, and we started seeing cars going by on the Belt Parkway.
My mother ran into the house and called 911. The Police did come and kind of made fun of us. The next day they called my mother and told her that it was an aircraft from Floyd Bennett Field. Bullshit, we knew what we saw. They were just covering up. Jane and I cannot talk about this to anyone, because they look at us like we're crazy.
