Description: It was in the aftermath of Hurricane Camille in August 1969. I (age 16) living in Metairie, La) joined 2 uncles and my aunt (from Lake Jackson, Texas) at my grand parents (James Acy C****) farm to help with a trees that fell on the farm house and another on a fence in the field. There was no power. My two uncles left to search for water from other farm that might have wells. My aunt Louvenia C**** (in her 30's?) and I were left alone.
The uncles were gone for hours. It was as black a night as it gets in the country when there is no electricity anywhere in the area. We were sitting on the front porch talking and generally just marking time. The skys were clear and the stars very visible. I noticed directly ahead of us in the distance to the forward right that a light was moving in a straight line, while all the other lights were stationary. It was above the tree line level above an open field and made no sound. I commented on it to my aunt, and she had been watching the same movement. It was the only thing moving in the sky.
I initially wondered if it was a plane or helicopter in the sky at a distance but it kept moving in the direction the would have it move to the right side of the house. My aunt went in and got a large flashlight. She came out on the porch and shined the beam at the light in the sky. It travelled a short distance and then went out. Then it came back on a short distance from where it was but on a straight line from its original path. She shined it again with the same results. This indicated to me that it was not an aircraft at a distance, but something close enough to react to her light. It was still hard to tell how far away it was because it was just a ball of light, and it made no sound.
We watched it from then on. It stayed lit and continued on its path above the tree line level. It crossed the open field in front and to the right of the farmyard fence line (field between the C**** and W****** farms). It then passed on the tree line along the fence and crossed into the back field area of the C**** farm. It was then that it passed behind the large corn storage bin, and the cows in that area got stirred up and rustling around. That is when it was evident to me that the light was no more that 40 to 50 yards from the porch at that point.
My aunt shined the light on it again around that time and it went out. It never came back on. She was courageous and got me to go out into that back field in the dark with the flashlight to see if we could find anything. We did not .
We told my uncles (Tom and Bill C****) about the sighting when they returned. I did not get a lot of sleep that night. I was in the back bedroom closest to the field where we last saw it.
