UFO SIGHTING REPORT
LAKE WORTH FLORIDA
1982
UFOINFO Sighting Form Report
Name: Scott
Location: Western area of Lake Worth, Florida, USA
Date: close to mid night in 1982
Approach Direction: from the east and circled around us
Departure Direction: up
Witness Direction: facing east initially
Description: In 1982 I took a girl to see the movie Rocky III. Afterwards we drove to an unpopulated road. The road was in a new development called "Homeland" and is off SR 441 in western Lake Worth, Florida.
After driving deep into the huge development I backed in to the far western dead end road. A short time after we arrived we both noticed a stationary light in the sky to our east. We commented on it and began watching it. We began trying to guess what it was and every time we did the light would prove us wrong. The light was white and would frequently change its intensity. It began moving horizontally, vertical and at angles. It did this at great speeds proving to me that it was not a plane, helicopter, remote control toy. We both exited the car to better monitor the light. I did not feel threatened by it as I thought it was far away in space. That all changed when the light traveled very fast, horizontally and close to the ground. I could see that the light was illuminating trees behind it. It made no sound. It was then when I felt that it was aware of our presence.
We exited the car and ran out into the middle of the road to get a better look. We both watched as the light, still paralleling the ground, made a complete circle around us. Because it was so dark in this area (no street lights) I could not judge how close this light was. After it circled us we were panicking and ran back to the car. Having drag raced other cars in this development; I knew these roads like the back of my hand. I put the car in gear and began driving very fast to reach the main road where I knew other cars and people would be.
While driving I remember driving past an old barn on my right side. I remember seeing a grassy area behind the barn that had a smoldering fire. The burning section appeared approximately 15' in diameter. I couldn't see it's shape, but only it's width. I remember thinking "Why would someone be burning grass at midnight?" Knowing I was nearing the main road I felt calmer, but then suddenly became confused. I was right back where I started from. I was back at the dead end road, but not backed in. I was parked facing west. Feeling confused, but content, I drove my date home. We didn't talk about what happened or anything for that matter. We maintained a friendship, but never dated again. Our encounters were always small talk and brief.
My recollection of this night seemed to always be there, but was never entertained (not thought of), at least for a few years. After seeing so many UFO documentary s I hear of lost time and abductions. I don't know if I lost time or was abducted. I don't know if I want to know. I guess I am afraid of what I'll find out.
In the late 1980's I became a police officer. One day I ran into Michelle. I asked her "Hey, remember when we went to that Rocky movie and went out to Homeland?" She looked at me puzzled and said "No." I got closer to her and pressured her and said "You don't remember seeing that light and that grassy field on fire?" She began to tremble and became teary eyed and yelled "I don't want to talk about it" and literally ran away from me. I was to stunned to do anything other than stand there with my jaw hanging open. I realized that something more happened that night. I still run into her. I never mentioned it again. I want to, but I don't want her to have a breakdown. I hope she initiates the subject with me.
Color/Shape: White light, with varied intensities
Height & Speed: speed of light, capable of reversing directions instantly. Seemed to prefer changing directions at sharp angles (not curved turns).
TV/Radio/Press: not to my knowledge.
Follow-up information from Brian Vike:
To start with, could you please describe the weather at the time of the
sighting. Was it Overcast? Raining? A clear night? Full moon?
I remember
that there was enough overcast that you couldn't see any stars. It wasn't
raining or overly cloudy.
In what part of the sky was the UFO located? North, south, east, west?
On
the horizon or straight overhead or somewhere in between? Initially the
object was higher in the eastern sky. It eventually went 360 degrees around
us.
As the UFO moved? How far and how fast? ( as much detail as possible
please on it's movements from start to finish and the different speeds it
traveled at).
Initially it stayed higher in the sky. It moved up, down, left
and right, and at 45 degree angles. Not in that order. When it changed
directions it never made any visible curved turns. The light intensity
changed, but I don't think that was representative of it coming closer or
moving away. It's speed was almost instantaneous. It would almost appear to
disappear and reappear. It occasionally moved very slow, but always in one
direction. When it circled us I could follow it, but not gauge it's
distance. At the time I felt that the object knew we were watching it. I
would estimate that from the time we initially saw it to when it circled us
and we fled to be 5 minutes.
Describe the appearance of the UFO: shape, size, distance, color, texture,
if this is possible. Also would you be able to do up a diagram of the area
and where the object was in relationship to you both.
My description is
somewhat limited. I only saw the light, which was white in color and would
randomly change in brightness. I never heard any sounds, saw any shapes
behind the light. When it traveled close to the ground I could see that the
light lit up surrounding trees, which were maybe 1/4 to 1/2 mile away.
Describe the area in which you made the sighting. Is it near an airport?
An Air Force Base? A military or research installation of any kind?
This
area is now a developed suburb, but back then was undeveloped farm land. The
closest airport is the Palm Beach International Airport, which is north east
of that location approximately 12 miles. There is no military bases in this
area. Some of the homes to the West (5 miles away) have private airstrips
for small planes. At the time this was not a heavily populated area. Anyone
within 5 miles of that area could have saw what we saw, but I never heard of
another witness.
Were you able to see any aircraft in the area at the time of the sighting?
I did not see any other aircraft that evening.
As for the burning grass, did you see at anytime the object hovering or
flying low over that area? See what is interesting is that you seemed to
have lost some time and I am wondering if what ever this was, did it touch
down or hover over the ground at that point.
It is strange to discuss, but I
remember seeing that grass burning, slowing down the car to look at it. My
reaction did not seem like mine. After being freaked out by the light I was
suddenly calm thinking...why would someone be burning their grass. I should
have felt, holy smokes, something landed there and I'm in danger. My next
memory is that I'm almost out of the development (which is the main road SR
441). Instead...bamm, I'm not. I'm right back where I first saw the light.
I remember driving right up to the dead end road and thinking how the hell
did I end up here. It's a few miles, requiring a few turns to get from that
point to SR 441. I just looked up that area on MapQuest and it's totally
developed and nothing like it was back then.
When the object was running circles around you, did you feel any unusual
sensation throughout your bodies?
No, not that I remember.
Also have you found any marks on your body that you can't figure out where
they came from?
No
After the event, did you start having weird or strange dreams you hadn't
had before the event took place?
I've always had bizarre, but detailed
dreams. I never had any that seemed related to this.
Have you had any other encounters with an object since that sighting?
I
don't think so.
Well, Scott I could go on asking question by the stack load here, so we
will start with these.
One last thing, I would not bring the subject up to ******** again as it
certainly upsets her. One day if she feels comfortable enough to come
forward she may contact you. If she ever does, I know I would like to hear
her side of things as I am sure she may hold more information about the
experience. I agree. I've discussed this incident with a small number of
close friends. I am not accustomed to being ridiculed or made fun of. I
appreciate you approach to this and your understanding. I've always been
open minded about many things, but I'm also very anal when it comes to facts
and evidence, etc. I believe that the light we saw was not from this world
and didn't intend on harming me, as it likely had the ability to do.
