UFOINFO Sighting Form Report
Location: El Paso, Texas, United States of America
Date: Between December 25, 1998 and January 5, 1999. I can't remember the exact day. Approximately 10:00 a.m.
Approach Direction: Northwestly direction.
Departure Direction: It dissipated in the north.
Witness Direction: Northwest and north.
Description: It was a brilliant morning and I was lounging on our sidewalk, listening to my wife playing her guitar. I was looking in sky, watching jets arrive to the airport in El Paso, Texas. I was looking in the northwest sky. I was about 3-4 miles south of the airport in military housing on Fort Bliss, Texas.
As I watched a jet arrive, I noticed in the sky an object that was stationary, and very bright. It appeared to be about 1 mile away. It was strange, because it was not moving, and it was very prominent against the blue sky of the morning. I watched the object for about a minute, and I asked my wife to look also. She witnessed the ball of light, and then, it started slowly drifting in a northerly direction.
It floated for a while, and then, it appeared to split into two separate balls of light. They changed color, in what appeared to be a reddish color. Again, these balls of light slowly drifted, and they drifted in a northerly direction.
We watched for approximately 20 minutes, and we momentarily lost sight of them. Then, almost as soon as we lost sight of the balls, they appeared directly in front of us in the northern sky. It felt like they were within 200 or 300 yards of us at that point in time directly in the northern sky. Needless to say, we were a little shocked. It was almost as if they knew we were watching them, and came down to get a closer look at us.
Again, they slowly floated in a northerly direction. They eventually floated away to the point of totally dissipating from our view.
The objects did not move in a jerky or quick manner. They sort of just floated, and at times faded. The only time anything quick happened was when we lost sight of them, and then they appeared immediately in the sky near us at what seemed like a 200 to 300 yards distance.
Neither of us were frightened by what we witnessed. However, we were very excited. We called the El Paso airport and told them what we saw. We also called a local number for MUFON and left a message on an answering machine. No one ever called us back about the incident.
P.S. If you know of any other people that witnessed these things in the El Paso area during that timeframe, I would like you to contact me. I felt it was very real, and it would be odd if no others witnessed it.
Color/Shape: Small ball of golden-white light that eventually split into two balls. It changed color, and at times appeared reddish in color.
Height & Speed: I estimate that they were at least 300 feet in the sky. They moved quite slowly, as if they were floating. They did not move quickly, except when they showed up near us at what felt like 200 to 300 yards.
TV/Radio/Press: I am not aware of any reports. We called the airport, and also called a local MUFON number and left a message.
