Scottsville, Virginia Multiple Sighting Of Lights

Time: 9:00 - 11:00 p.m.

Location of Sighting: Scottsville, VA, USA
Number of witnesses: 3
Number of Objects: Varies, anywhere from 3 to dozens.
Shape of Objects: Resemble stars because of their distance, impossible to tell exact shape.

Full Description of Event/Sighting: My mother and I began sky watching at night in 2002 and spotted a few star-like lights in the sky. The lights vary in size, number, and position from night to night, but each of them are colored red, white, and green. My grandmother joined us soon after our first sightings and was able to see the lights and their three colors as well. We scanned the sky for them regularly, almost every night, for a month or so but began watching for them less frequently and more randomly throughout the years.

Though it was a rare occurrence - the lights usually remain stationary - my mother, grandmother, and I even saw the lights move jerkily to a different point in the sky and then back to their original positions but never more than one at a time. When the lights first caught our interest, we marveled at the idea that they could be UFO's, but also considered the possibility of them being satellites. Sometime between 2002 and 2004, I called the Department of Astronomy to see if they had any idea what the lights could be.

When I first spoke of the colors, they mentioned that there are stars of different colors visible from Earth, but when I told them that each light consisted of three colors, they insisted that it must be some sort of optical illusion created by my binoculars, even after I asserted that the colors were visible with the naked eye. The phone call ended somewhat abruptly, and I was left with no answers. However, they didn't seem to think the lights could be satellites. We continue to see these multi-colored lights in the night sky, and, whatever they are, they've kept their distance thus far.

Thank you to the witness for their report.
